PAGCOR project attracts Japanese investments

Tiger Resorts, Leisure and Entertainment Inc. will invest approximately $2 billion to build Manila Bay Resorts, on a 45-hectare site within the Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment Complex along Manila Bay. It will feature two luxury casino hotels with 450 and 650 rooms each and an indoor man-made beach enclosed in a glass dome using natural lighting to replicate the beach experience. It will also stage Las Vegas-style water fountain shows. The hotels will also house high-end local and international restaurant chains to serve traveling international food enthusiasts. The resort will also provide a 1,000-room budget hotel to cater to price-conscious tourists and about 150 retail outlets. Thee anchor casino will operate 24 hours a day and offer 500 gaming tables and 3,000 slot machines. The firm is also contemplating an elevated roadway that will directly link the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to the site.

The company stressed that the Philippines, with its scenic environment and renowned hospitality, is an excellent location for the next huge entertainment tourism hub in the region. It described the proximity of the country to China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, Manila as a competitive advantage over other major Asian cities. Company officials explained that the development will be a key element in the drive to attract a million tourists to the site, which is slated for completion by 2014. The state-owned Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) expects the entertainment city to create more than 400,000 jobs.
