Special visa grants foreigners indefinite stay in the Philippines

Share

The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that foreigners with businesses in the country that employ at least ten Filipino workers can avail of a special visa for employment generation (SVEG) enabling them to stay indefinitely. Holders of the SVEG will also enjoy multiple entry privileges, eliminating the need to secure reentry or exit permits. The same privileges can also be extended to the holder’s legal spouse and unmarried children below the age of 18.

However, the visa will still be subject to restrictions imposed by the Constitution and existing laws on foreign investments. The new rules provide for the outright issuance to a qualified foreign applicant, instead of the previous probationary one-year period. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) shall certify that the applicant employs the required number based on employment contracts submitted. Household service workers are excluded. A BI hearing officer will process and act on the application within 15 days.
